Heb 9:15

For this reason He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that, since a death has taken place for the redemption of the transgessions that were committed under the first covenant, those who have been called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

Jesus is the mediator of the new and improved covenant. Those who take part in the new covenant receive everything they need to obtain the eternal inheritance.

The first covenant is a covenant of obedience. Disobedience to this covenant resulted in death. Adam was told: "but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die." Moses read the old covenant to the people of Israel, who said "All that the LORD has said we will do, and be obedient." Under the old covenant, we die. But under the new covenant...

JESUS DIES! Why does He die? To purchase a people who will be blessed with an eternal blessing. All who are under the updated covenant receive joy, peace with God, protection, and ultimately the reward of heaven.

So, we must rely on this new covenant death. Paul, a minister of the new covenant, declares of the old covenant "for the letter kills." Paul insists that fulfilling the old covenant of obedience is impossible, because "the scripture [old covenant] has confined all under sin." Why did God institute the first covenant, if it is impossible to perform? Paul says: "Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith."
